VICTORY WITH A HUGE GAP FOR COURTNEY
Kate Courtney of the USA has won the U23 women race in Nové Město na Moravě. The rider from the Specialized Racing Team confirmed the predictions that had ranked her to be the absolute front-runner of the race, and dominated it, having won with a margin of 1:50 minutes. Evie Richards of Great Britain took silver, and the bronze went to Sina Frei of Switzerland who finished more than three minutes behind the winner.
Courtney has basically ridden a race of her own. She soon got in the lead, and managed to build a gap that she gradually increased all the way until the finish line.
“I knew my shape was good, but you never know how good the other girls are. I was surprised by the gap that I have won today with. And I am glad it worked out well just now in Nové Město,” the American said.
“I had not planned to attack. Evie was really stronger in descents, but I was gaining in up-hills, and this is where I managed to build my lead. After that I only kept my pace and concentrated hard on every inch of the course,” Courtney revealed.
Today’s victory of the American racer was the second gold for the Specialized Racing Team in Nové Město na Moravě, as Annika Langvad won yesterday in the Women Elite race.
